Step back in time at Homestead Days at Landmark Park on Saturday, May 9th, and learn practical, hands-on skills from the past that are still useful today. These classes offer a unique chance to explore traditional crafts, gain self-sufficiency skills, and connect with others who share your interest. Blacksmithing: Learn traditional blacksmithing techniques in this hands-on workshop with Steve Lowry. Each session runs for 3 hours. 9 AM–12 PM and afternoon class from 1 PM–4 PM. (Morning class option or afternoon class option). Space is limited to 6 students per class. $30 per student. Class will be at the blacksmith shop on Landmark Park Farm.

 

Chair Caning: Discover the art of chair caning and weaving in this hands-on class taught by Judith Larkin. Session runs from 9 AM–12 PM. Space is limited to 10 students per class. $40 per student. Class will be held at the Outdoor Classroom in the woods across from the Interpretive Center by the boardwalk.

 

Woodturning: Meet Chuck Davis with the Wiregrass Woodturners Association for a hands-on exploration of woodturning on a lathe and other techniques. Classes run 10 AM–12 PM and 2 PM–4 PM. (Morning class option or afternoon class option). Limited to 12 students per session. $25 per student. Class will be held in the back indoor classroom at the Interpretive Center.

 

1800’s Locket Pocket (Sewing): Explore 18th-century clothing and its connection to the 250th Anniversary of America in this engaging four-hour session with sewing instructor and quilting expert, Sherry Burkhalter. Class runs from 8 AM–12 PM and will be in the Auditorium at the Interpretive Center. Limited to 10 students. Cost: $35 per student.

 

Pottery: Discover the art of pottery making in this one-hour introductory class with Lynn Koning. Students will learn the fundamentals of creating pottery. This class runs from 10 AM–11 AM in the Bridal Suite at Stokes Barn. Limited to 6 students. Cost: $35 per student.

 

Gardening: Learn the essentials of gardening for self-sufficient living in this two-hour class with Master Gardener Courtney Rae Clark. Class runs from 9 AM–11 AM in the kitchen garden on the Farm next to the Waddell House. Limited to 15 students. Cost: $20 per student.

 

Introduction to Canning and Preserving: Learn the basics of canning and food preservation in this informative, lecture style class with Kelly Matthews from Wiregrass Homesteaders. Class runs from 9 AM–11 AM at the Browns Crossroads Schoolhouse at Landmark Park, next to the church. Limited to 20 students. Cost: $15 per student.

 

Introduction to Beekeeping: Curious about starting your own hive? Join Bill Miller from the Wiregrass Beekeepers Association for an engaging introduction to the world of beekeeping. This is a lecture style class, and the session will be held in the Stokes Barn from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Space is limited to 30 participants, so be sure to reserve your spot early. Cost: $15 per student.
